Ancient Baltic Crafts and Warfare

Baltic Vikings or Curonians:

  • Textile Processing. Visitors can observe and try out techniques such as:
    • vertical loom weaving,
    • spinning with Viking-era spindles,
    • tablet weaving,
    • lace crocheting with bone needles, and
    • sewing ancient garments.
  • Preparation and tasting of historical cuisine.
  • Exhibition of Curonian weaponry (featuring the most valuable collection of reconstructions in Lithuania, and possibly in the Baltic countries).
  • Display of Curonian jewelry.
  • Warriors will demonstrate historical combat training, battles, and visitors will have the opportunity to try on armor, handle weapons, and take unique photographs with historical armor.

They can ring, thump, clatter, thud, jingle, rattle, chirp, boom, twirl, whistle, rustle, croak, tinkle – a true symphony of sounds!

Such a lively afternoon awaits those who attend Saulius Petreikis’ music education session titled “Resounding Castles and Traveling Musicians.”

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Saulius Petreikis has amassed a collection of over 30 ancient instruments from around the world, and he can play them all! Come and listen!

In this cozy and heartfelt encounter with ancient instruments, you will experience interactive narratives, traditional music, and contemporary improvisations. You will learn about ancient Lithuanian instruments and their relatives in other countries.
